DotMoms is a weblog that features smart, fun, and focused writing about motherhood from many perspectives. The DotMoms are good writers with something to say about life on the homefront. We aim to be a diverse group that reflects all kinds of moms (different ages, locations, races, religions, and so on), and all kinds of kids. In fact, some of us are kids—at heart, if not chronologically —people who have moms, and know moms, and can share observations from that point of view.
What distinguishes us is not only our subject matter and format, but also our tone — light-hearted and laser sharp—and our focus: zoomed in on what it's like to belong to a family, as daughters and mothers.
I started DotMoms after discovering there were moms reading my weblog who did not have a place to share their own experiences. So, I invited some of themalong with some friendsto join this virtual community of mothers where they could connect with themselves (through writing) and others (through publishing).
TypePad made it possible at every stage. It is very easy to invite others to join a weblog; it is easy to set granular permissions for authors; it is easy for authors to submit a post, even if they don't know HTML; and it is easy for me to manage the multiple posts by scheduling them to publish ahead of time. I couldn't and wouldn't have DotMoms without TypePad.
