[MTOS-dev] testing var for empty before using in mt:loop

I've been poking around the docs and I can't find a reference for how
to test for (or account for) an empty array variable before throwing
it in an mt:loop. I tried empty_message="" (like mtapp:listing) but
that does not seem to be supported. I've been perusing the template
tag docs looking for an applicable If tag, but am not seeing one. Can
someone give me some guidance?
