Personally I don't use Ubuntu, so have no way of testing this, but the
packages don't have too many onerous dependencies (and for example I'm
using them fine in Debian stable without having to rebuild anything) so
you could give it a try.

I believe it'll be pulled into Ubuntu automatically where it'll be built
"correctly", but maybe not until after the next release is out.
