For fastcgi, setting a limit on the number of requests that a worker 
serves does work to control the memory leaks.  On my 4.1 system, I run 
two worker processes that recycle after 100 requests.  They hover 
between 100M and 200M memory used.  This is on a 64-bit Freebsd 6.2 system.
