I'm aware of how some systems ended up having a lot of one type of
template, but with the introduction pages and other measures, I think
the likelihood of that legitimately happening are rather slim now.
Users can always misuse the system like continuing to use index
templates for author profiles or static pages. The only case I could
think of is having a lot of modules because the template designer(s)
decided to be very granular. Are there others I'm not thinking of?

What I'm suggesting is that perhaps this is an unnecessary worry going forward.
