Let me back up a bit further.
DefaultTemplates.pm has a bunch of code in it that determines what .mtml
files to grab and where they are(as well as a hard-coded list of the
defaults). When, through the app, I create a new blog and apply a template
set, does that process use DefaultTemplates.pm for that purpose? If not,
then there appears to be redundancy.

I understand that they currently /represent/ a template set(roughly), but if
so then what's the case for continuing to treat them specially rather than
going in the plugin dir(or addons, I guess) with the other template sets?

As always, this is not "Do it now" but "Hey, what if..."
