I'm curious about this, too. Speed is great(really!), but the problem here
is that search is just plain anemic. And that's evidently generally accepted
in blogland; I'm not aware of any blogging engine having a particularly
robust front-end search system. Though I wonder if that acceptance is more
resignation to a fact of life than anything else.
Of course, blogs for the most part don't need lots of search options, since
they're pretty linear. But MT is now sticking its toes into being an
entirely different thing--a forum backend--where it is VERY common to be
able to say, "Show me all entries mentioning XYZ by Chad within the last
month, only from the plugin category, and sort them ascending by title." And
frankly, right now I can't do any /single/ one of those things. (User
profiles can pull up that person's last few recent comments/posts; not a
replacement.) Even minimalist Vanilla allows combined topic/author
filtering.
I'm obviously looking way forward here, and not even asking for /all/ of
these things(though feel free!) Many--most?--people won't need or use them,
but the ones that do notice them missing will probably be loud about it.
