Su, as usual, you have given quite the detailed view and noted the myriad
issues we are facing.
Personally, my suggestion was not intended to add to this muddle. Rather,
I'd cut most of it. Just have a few lists and a blog/wiki. Make the lists
searchable by Google. Stop.
I originally suggested the MT based forums idea last summer. If the
consensus is to do that instead of a list, great. Here's a few
recommendations to make it actually work:
1. The MT forums should be Google searchable and all that we need is
probably a custom search engine to improve things there.
2. Fix the login and authentication problems.
3. Monitor the subscription experience in a tool like Google reader.
