Not Able To Create a Directory For Publishing

Question

When specifying the paths for a new weblog, or saving the information on the Settings > Publishing tab, I get Error: Movable Type was not able to create a directory for publishing your weblog. If you create this directory yourself, assign sufficient permissions that allow Movable Type to create files within it..

Answer

When you specify your Site Root path, Movable Type will try to create the designated folder for you in that location if it does not already exist. So, if you get this error message, it means that the folder does not exist at that location and Movable Type was unable to create it automatically for you.

If you've already created the folder, you should check the value you entered for Site Root again, to make sure it is correct. If you've not already created the folder, you will need to do so, and then assign appropriate permissions to it (the equivalent of UNIX 777 unless you're running under cgiwrap or suexec, in which case 755 should be sufficient).
