Lost Password
Question
I've forgotten my password, and never received the email when I tried to recover it; or I forgot or did not set my password hint, so I cannot recover my password.
Answer
Check Spam Filters First
If you are not receiving the password recovery emails, and you know sendmail is working on your server (i.e., you still receive comment and TrackBack notifications), check your spam filters to see if the emails have been misdirected.
Using a Version Below 3.2?
If you're running a version of Movable Type prior to 3.2, you may be able to reset your password by using MT-Medic, a utility to perform useful and other emergency tasks on your Movable Type installation. If you need assistance with this third-party script, please post for assistance on the community support forum.
Important: Due to changes in how permissions are handled in version 3.2, it is likely that MT-Medic will not function with that version.
If MT Medic gives you the error Invalid author id '0', and you are using the Berkeley database, contact your host to see if changes have been made on your server. See the section on Changed Hosts or Servers? under Invalid Login for more information on login problems which can be caused by server changes.
Using MySQL?
If you're using a MySQL database, and you have access to a tool such as phpMyAdmin, you may be able to edit your database directly to set your password hint to allow you to use the recovery option (or view the password hint if you've forgotten it).
You may also be able to reset your password directly in the database; however, you should only attempt this as a last resort or if you're very comfortable with MySQL commands.
