This option controls whether TrackBacks will be accepted to any entry on this weblog. To disable incoming TrackBacks, simply uncheck the box.
If you are using the new template structure introduced in Movable Type 3.2, a rebuild of the Index templates will also remove the TrackBack URL and auto-discovery metadata from all of your individual entries. If not, you must rebuild all Individual archives to remove these elements.
This setting controls who may comment on your site. There are three choices:
Anyone and No one are self-explanatory except that the latter effectively disables commenting on the blog. If you are using the new template structure introduced in Movable Type 3.2, a rebuild of the Index templates will also remove the comment form from all of your individual entries. If not, you must rebuild all Individual archives to remove the comment form.
Autheticated commenters allows only commenters authenticated through the TypeKey service (or another TypeKey-compatible service if you have set one up). This option requires enabling TypeKey on your weblog in the option below entitled Authentication Status.
This option specifies whether you wish to allow HTML in comments submitted to your site. This is highly recommended and any HTML submitted will be sanitized for malicious code according to the settings in Limit HTML tags setting on the weblog's General settings page.
This option allows you to set up TypeKey (or a compatible service) on your blog to enable authenticated commenting. This is highly recommended as an extremely effective and easy anti-spam technique.
The "Setup Authentication" button will launch a wizard in a pop-up window that will easily allow you to complete the setup. You may also enter your TypeKey token (found on your TypeKey profile) manually into the space provided.
If you are not using TypeKey, but instead a TypeKey-compatible service, you must enter the token manually.
This setting controls whether you want to have junk comments and TrackBacks automatically deleted after a certain period of time specified in the next option.
This setting will dictate whether bare, unlinked URLs (e.g. http://www.example.com) should be converted to links by the system upon publishing the comment. This is a recommended setting.
This option specifies the text formatting option (details) to be applied for comments submitted to your weblog.
Note that Text Formatting is executed before unwanted HTML tags are removed, if they are allowed at all. Also, the Text formatting option is not constrained by the Allow HTML setting and will be executed regardless of that option.
This setting defines the number of days since a junk comment or TrackBack was received or marked as Junk until the item is deleted.
The value of this setting depends completely on how often you look in your Junk folder for false positives. The default is 14 days which is suitable for most people.
This option specifies your preference regarding receiving comment notification emails. Only when attention is required will send you emails only when you receive a comment that is held for moderation.
Junk comments will never spawn a comment notification email, regardless of the setting.
This setting enables you to control what should happen to non-junk comments after submission based on the status of the commenter. There are four choices:
No one will hold all comments for approval of the weblog owner or other sufficiently priviliged user.
Trusted commenters only and Any authenticated commenters will hold comments for approval unless they are submitted by trusted or authenticated commenter, respectively.
Anyone will immediately publish all comments from any commenters.
Six Apart recommends Any authenticated commenters and use of the TypeKey service as a solid means of anti-spam protection.
For more details see Chapter 6 in the Users and Administrators Guide entitled "Feedback and Community Management".
You can download the Users and Administrators Guide here.
Each comment and TrackBack received by the system is scored through a number of tests provided by anti-spam plugins for desirability. Each non-abstaining test contributes a score on a scale from -10 to 10, from least to most desirable. These tests are averaged to create a Final Feedback Rating which, along with the individual test scores, can be viewed on the individual comment or TrackBack editing page for that item.
The Junk Score threshold is the minimum allowable score for non-junk feedback items. Any score lower than the Junk threshold will cause an item to be marked as junk.
This setting allows you to compensate for any plugins that regularly cause feedback items to be miscategorized as Junk or Not Junk. However, it is highly recommended that unless you have good reason to do so, you leave it set to the default of 0.
This setting controls whether email address is required from your commenters upon submitting a comment.
This option holds all TrackBacks for approval by the weblog owner or sufficiently priviliged user before publishing. This is highly recommended to prevent publishing of any spam that not be caught by the built-in spam protection in Movable Type 3.3 and Movable Type Enterprise.
