Chapter 12: Getting Help

Six Apart has a variety of support options and self-service resources for you to choose from. This chapter provides pointers to those options so that you can get help when you need it. An overview of Movable Type support options can be found online at http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/support.

Users who have purchased a paid license for Movable Type 3.0 or above get access to Basic and Advanced personal support options.

Basic Support includes access to our Members-Only Knowledge Base and use of an online help ticket system to request assistance with Movable Types features. To access the Basic Support system, log in to your account and use the links to the right under "Help & Support."

Since not every support issue can be resolved with the Free or Basic support plans, Advanced Support services are available and are charged on a per-incident basis.

What about installation services?

Problem

You want to keep up on the latest Movable Type news.

Solution

Movable Type displays breaking news for users on the System Overview Menu screen.

Discussion

Movable Type makes it easy by bringing the news to you. Click the "System Overview" link in the Primary Navigation. There you will see headlines with excerpts of the latest news.

Problem

The Movable Type Knowledge Base is a collection of tips, extended documentation, and solutions to common problems, that is constantly updated by Six Apart support staff. The Knowledge Base is part of the Basic Support plan and can be accessed by all users by going to http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/kb.

You are having a problem with Movable Type that you are unable to resolve.

Solution

Open a help ticket with Six Apart support.

Personal technical support through the online help ticket system is included with any paid license for Movable Type 3.0 or later.

You can file a ticket by signing in to your Movable Type account at https://secure.sixapart.com/t/account. Once inside you will see a box entitled "Help & Support" on the right hand side. Click the "Open a New Ticket" link and fill out the ticket. Choose from the list of options that which best represents the problem or error you are experiencing. In the description text area be sure to paste in any error messages you have received, and describe the activity leading to your problem. The more detailed your description, the easier it will be for us to help you. Click the Create Ticket button to submit your request.

To track your tickets click the "Open Tickets" link that is also found in the "Help & Support" box. Once an issue is resolved you will need to mark it as closed. A history of your past closed tickets is also available in the "Help & Support" screen.
