Looking good for launch!

This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.

Well, after a number of days with Beta-5 out in the wild, things are looking great. There have been no significant bugs reported which would require us to issue another beta or postpone the launch further! I want to thank you all for hanging with us to make sure that we're releasing at the right time. So far, early this week looks to be the right time.

If you do experience a bug, please make sure to report it as quickly as possible (no, not in the comments of this entry, but here). Right now, if you're experiencing problems and don't find the answer to it in the user support thread it's better to report it to us and let us figure out whether it's a bug than to continue to investigate it. The clock is ticking!

Looks like Movable Type 3.2 is finally going to be released very soon. In this day in age, Six Apart actually did the opposite of what most companies do and actually beta test the software an appropriate amount. In other... [Read More]

applaud ..Monday release?

no need to answer btw :)

Okay... :-)

Neato, looking forward to the final release!

It's going to take me ages to rework my templates into the new 3.2 format on my main blog when I upgrade! None of my class names match up at all any more - but it'll all be worth it.

demonsurfer, you may not want to know, but I'm sure there's a boatload of people who DO want to know. :)

dopefish, it will be released when we're ready to release it. demonsurfer knows that which is why he asked and yet posted the followup.

I doubt that we can release today. Tomorrow is more likely, but it all depends on the lack of show-stopping and the state of everything related to a release.

You can use Beta-5 in the meantime as it is very, very stable and very close to what we would be releasing if we released tomorrow. That should reduce your need to know the precise hour of the release.

I really hope for a release tomorrow :-)

Jay, I do software release for my company. I know full well what it's all like. However, things like "It's ready to go" at the end is rough to take when you can smell the release. :)

For us too. But I'm also really sensitive to giving ETAs and then having to change them. This software was scheduled to be released two weeks ago. I'm tired of saying "It will be just a little while longer than I originally said".

Hey, my company is the KING of delayed software releases. I doubt you could tell me anything about that subject we haven't already run into. I point to our company's flagship product, "Duke Nukem Forever". :)

dopefish, that's too funny!

hmm.. Wednesday release maybe? :) Seriously, any updates at all or anything we can do to help? - I'd imagine I'm not the only one refreshing the index page every 5 minutes, hehe ;-)

I'm anxious like DemonSurfer. Refreshing like crazy! Come on Jay. It's almost midnight in the Great State of Texas and I want to be one of first to grab it.

BTW....a little birdy led me to where it is, but I'm too scared to download it. LOL wink

It wouldn't be the final anyhow...

Right now, we're putting together the remaining launch collateral. You may have noticed a lot going on in the docs and knowledge base? Well, there's a lot more going on under the surface.

Best guess estimate is Thursday morning, although I'm trying really really hard to make to tomorrow evening.

Good Deal Jay. Thanks for the update!

Thanks Jay, guess I can go get some sleep then :) Honestly you guys must be hanging to get it out there and finally have some personal time. You should have a release party too. A messy one.

Jay, has the issue I reported on 8/18, also mentioned by Robmonster here, been resolved? (Namely, an entry with a blank title no longer displays "..." as its title in the standard entry listing and can therefore not be clicked on to edit it.)

I only ask here because I haven't gotten any email confirmation of the bug report, and it does seem like a pretty significant problem, albeit easy to fix. Thanks!

Marcus, we're dying to get this released. We just have a few more things to do.

Yes, Kevin, that bug was fixed. Sorry for no reply. We were busy trying to get the last minute issues solved.

Great, thanks. I certainly don't expect you to reply individually to every reported bug; just wanted to check on that one in particular because it felt major-ish.

Suggestion for future beta cycles: If the bug tracking software could send an automated email reply that said "Your bug report has been received and logged with ID 12345," and then publish a page that simply listed the IDs of all resolved reports, that might save you guys some work and bug reporters some uncertainty.

That is a favorable approach staggernation and I have seen it work in the past considerably well!

I just wanted to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
