Beta-5 coming...
This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.
Yes, yes, very sad, I know, but really, it's not you; it's us.
We made a very hard decision today to forgo immediate release of Movable Type 3.2 in favor of another (one more!) beta. The reason behind the decision was that enough significant changes have occured in the course of fixing important bugs found in Beta-4 that we felt uncomfortable releasing without a final public test of the software.
This was a really tough decision to make for the team, but I know that in the end, it will make for a better release. I want you all to know that we really appreciate all of your efforts and for sticking with us in the beta for so long. Hopefully — and I know that I've said this before — this will be the last.
You should see Beta-5 sometime before noon tomorrow (Thurs).

It is so bad. We have to wait more time to get the final product. It is so good. We will get a more reliable product.
Thanks to so many BETA Testers.

You have my support to keep spitting out betas, I'd rather it be bulletproof then another 3.1 release!

At least you guys are careful about what you do unlike another company I've been beta testing for before (Graphics software). They took a beta 3 with plenty of significant problems and started selling it as the golden version. Of course we later found out why that happened. The company was in the process of being sold sob

No complaints about "yet another beta" from me. The more reliable the final product, the less minor updates required! We don't want to all upgrade to 3.2 then a week later have to install 3.2.1 then 3.2.2 etc. So keep the betas coming if there are still problems!

I'd like to see a final version without big problems, so quality needs time, I'll be patient.

Ya, Which time zone? I might be able to upgrade before going to work.
If it is Pacific Coast time, I am going to be really, really, really upset. You just wait and see how upset I will be....
I'll bet you're just petrified. Which would be appropriate if you are from California.
Oh, ok, I'll stop.

Hey, I got no complaints - my own beta testing was interrupted by a complete server self-destruction. I've finally got my machine back, and am ready to re-initiate MT beta testing. I was afraid I'd missed out on all the fun. B^)
But first on my list of things to do - make sure my admin is actually doing the backups he claimed he was doing. Turns out, not so much.

"Yes, yes, very sad, I know, but really, it's not you; it's us."
...sounding like a "breakup" line. Anyways, will this beta cover the "search-bug"? For example, I search on my blog for "food". It brings me to the search results page. I search again for "food" or any words, but this time it brings me all the results from the entire MT-install in the system. Meaning it crawls my friends' blogs as well.
I know that there is a "solution" to this by using alternate search template specifically per blog. But I think that this should be addressed since its been there since v2.661 from what I can recall.
Just my $0.02... Other than that, can't wait for 3.2! Good job 6A!

Sounds like the last release we had over here at MSNTV. Beta lasted quite a long time (a couple of months), but in the end, the decision to delay for quality is always the right one since your customers appreciate "good (and a little late)" over "fast (and broken)".
Good luck and looking forward to the 3.2 goodness!

That's not a "bug". That's the way the system works if you don't set it up correctly. See the section on the docs on search.
Now, it's important to say here that Search needs work. We know that. I developed it about four years ago against MT 1.x and it needs an overhaul. We have no disagreement that the search functionality needs love. However, it's not a "bug" and it's not in scope for Movable Type 3.2.

We're moving slowly westward, one hour at a time...
Seriously, though, we're just buttoning up a couple of things. It's coming when it comes. It will be today however.

Ba-da-da-dump. Ba-da-da-dump.
That's the sound of me tapping my fingers, impatiently waiting, if you were curious.
Seriously, I look forward to a solid product!

The betas are so rock solid that I wouldn't really mind if you never released the final.

Thanks for working so hard on this release, guys! Your dedication and discernment regarding the final release does nothing but help my confidence in this platform!
Don't beat yourself up over a long beta period. Truth be told, I'm relieved your beta period is as long as it is. I am personally skeptical of companies who announce the beta period and go right out of it weeks later.
Some companies out there prefer to limit their beta testing to a very limited group and limit the length to a few weeks, then only release the gold version to a very elite few. Then they wonder where they went wrong when they're releasing a critical 70mb patch only a month or two after its release, and include the term "70% faster" as an exciting feature.
I won't mention the company in particular, but many of you know who I'm talking about. (They have a chance to prove themselves worthy again next month, but I still wonder.)
Honestly, if there are 3 more betas, I wouldn't flinch. I certainly know what its like to fix a few showstoppers, think you're done, then realize that there's something else around the corner that needs fixing (or should be fixed) to eliminate after-work and post-launch nightmares.
So, keep up the excellent work Jay and company! Show the world that Six Apart is the leader in blogging! Your dedication is definitely appreciated, and I await the final version with nothing but excitement.!
