What's new in Movable Type 3.2?
This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.
This is an exciting release for the Movable Type platform, incorporating hundreds of new features and improvements shaped by the feedback we've gotten from you — our customers — about the ways you use the system. The main areas we focused on for this version are as follows:
Administrative control
We're giving people who manage multiple weblogs the tools to easily oversee their blogs in one place. One of Movable Type's strengths is enabling you to easily publish multiple blogs, and now the new System Overview section provides a single place for administrators to go for editing, updating, and reviewing all the content in the system.
Community management
We want to help you foster the type of community you want on your blog, free from spam. In addition to having robust spam protection enabled out of the box, we're especially proud of some innovative new tools we'll be releasing to help you encourage positive contributions from people who submit feedback to your site, while not having to get your hands dirty with junk comments or TrackBacks.
Easier to install and upgrade
The Movable Type community is rooted deeply in the DIY power-user mentality, but that shouldn't mean you need to struggle with upgrades or installs. In Movable Type 3.2, installation and upgrade has been drastically streamlined and made easier for our users.
User experience improvements across the entire application
Every common task you perform in Movable Type 3.2 is now more straightforward and simple, whether installing or upgrading the system, managing your entries or tweaking your templates and settings. We've focused on making the entire experience of working with Movable Type more satisfying, and we think this new version does a great job enabling you to do the things you want quickly and efficiently while being helpful as you explore new features in the system.
Easier to write, manage and use plugins
Movable Type's plugin community has been maturing, and with the new professional-grade plugins coming out, we've given plugin developers even more power and control. The entire platform can be easily extended with fewer lines of code and less knowledge of the system, while users can manage and use the power of plugins in more places throughout the system.
Our favorite 32 features
Over the past two weeks, we've been highlighting our favorite 32 features of MT 3.2 and we will continue posting during the beta. These posts give you an in-depth look at many of the new features and improvements in Movable Type 3.2 and will help you understand how the application you use everyday has changed. You may want want to read over those entries to familiarize yourself with the new version.
