The missing "view site" link
This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.
Some of you have told us that you really, really, really, really, really miss the View Site link in the top navbar. The reason that this was removed is that it confused some new users because of its placement next to system-level links and information and because it was redundant to the View Site button on every blog-context page in the application.
This is a classic problem in UI design. When something is wrong and you try to make it right, you disturb legacy users who had gotten used to the old behavior and/or layout. But, by leaving things as they are, you burden new users with the same learning process that we all went through many moons ago.
Making the application more friendly and understandable to new users is one of our highest priorities because weblogging isn't getting any less popular and the Movable Type user base is doing anything but declining. When new people are introduced to the platform, we want them to be able to use it without even having to consult the documentation and this, unfortunately, means a rearrangement and cleanup of the user interface.
Still, we understand muscle memory and we too have moved our mouse up instead of down and to the left out of rote repetitive practice. Our UI team is looking into suitable alternatives and if we can come up with one that fits in the information architecture, we won't hesitate to include it in a future beta release.
In the meantime, remember: Down and to the left.

I never used that one, but I liked it when the top-right MT logo linked back to MT.org, instead of being a recursive link to mt.cgi - which has always seemed redundant to me.
I change it to go to MT.org/support as soon as I upgrade, every time. (except this time, yet)
