Movable Type Beta

Known Issues

The following is a list of known issues with MT 3.2b3 which have not yet been fixed:

  • No documentation (see below)
  • Contextual help links in the application don't work (see below)
  • A still unresolved problem with upgrade for a very limited set of users stops in the middle reporting "Error during upgrade: Error during upgrade: ." (Cases 12250, 12251, 12362, 12336)
  • Relative paths are allowed but potentially detrimental in Weblog Site URL/path (Case 12269)
  • Modified 'URLs to ping' field not saved when saving entry (Case 5411)

The following issues exist in Beta-3 but have been fixed for the upcoming Beta-4:

  • A commenter session timeout bug for authenticated commenters which casues either a "Registration is required" error or comments to be submitted as an unauthenticated commenter, depending on your feedback settings (Case 12615)
  • Upgrade bug causes incomplete weekly archive list (Case 12246)
  • Notifications are sent for Junked comments (Case 12641)
  • The "Entries to Display" setting, if set to N entries, will display the first N entries posted to the weblog, rather than the last N entries. (Case 7224)
  • A non-existent tag (MTBlogIfDescription) was used in the Atom index (Case 12326)
  • MT not remembering login between page requests under mod_perl (Case 12355)
  • Need 3.2-compatible SpamLookup (Case 12109)
  • MTCommentEntry doesn't work correctly in dynamic category archives (Case 12356)
  • <$MTEntryLink archivetype="Category"$> throws error in individual archive template. Use <$MTArchiveLink archivetype="Category"$> as a workaround. (Case 12330)
  • Users lacking the Create Weblogs permission do not see a link to the system weblog list, even though the page itself would be safe to display (it is filtered to just accessible weblogs). (Case 12301)
  • UpgradeScript config directive implemented but not used by MT (Case 10110)
  • Changing Author Username results in forced logout (Case 7290)
  • An entry title of '0' would cause basename to be set to 'post'. Don't ask (Case 7013)
  • Weblog activity log search requires system level activity log permission (Case 7621)
  • Blog permissions of blog admin become unchecked/enabled in IE after save (Case 12275)
  • Non-UTF8 encoded L10N lexcions are broken in some random case (Case 12264)
  • Extra linefeeds in comment text weren't being stripped (Case 12249)
  • Certain scripts other than the admin scripts had trouble with localization under certain circumstance (Case 12248)
  • mt-check.cgi wasn't localized (Case 12242)
  • No error message was being printed in the activity log when TypeKey auth signature validation fails (Case 7456)
  • Templates with no name were uneditable because of lack of link text. Now prints "(no name)" (Case 12282)
  • Default templates were not localized and some link title attributes were not being wrapped in MT_TRANS tags for translation (Case 12270, 11475)
  • MTTopLevelParent returns error if NULL (Case 12181)

And a few notable issues that will not be fixed in v3.2 but will be addressed in a later release:

  • Entries tag doesn't support new category path selection syntax (e.g. <MTEntries category="Parent Category/Child Category">)
  • Dynamic publishing does not properly use/store linked templates
  • recently_commented_on attribute of MTEntries ignores context
  • Changing your blog's time zone forward (in the positive direction) can throttle commenters for a while

Documentation and Help links

Our documentation, including the endpoints to all contextual help links in the application, is currently being finalized and won't be available for a few more days. We apologize for the inconvenience, but are fairly sure that most of what you see in Movable Type 3.2 will be self-explanatory. If not, feel free to ask questions.

I'm having trouble getting category archives to work properly with dynamic publishing. It worked fine for me with 3.1 but the 3.2 beta is glitching. I have no problem with the archives when I switch over to static. I think this is due to a problem with the Tags plugin, which I started using last week with 3.1. I'm not sure what the cause of the error is though. The problem that manifests is that my dynamic category archives only display all recent entries instead of entries filtered by the current category.

Also, what's the deal with future posts? The tools directory is not included in the ZIP/TAR and when I tried adding it back to my MT folder, I got permission errors from cron. Has this feature been removed? If so, the option to publish in the future is still selectable in the entry page.

Make sure to file a bug if you've found one.

The feature hasn't been removed although we didn't include the tools/ directory in beta 1. It will come back.

I tried installing MT-Blacklist and while it shows the plugin is enabled, I cannot access the Blacklist configuration unless I manually type the Url into my browser window. Even then, it cannot seem to find the stylesheets.

Both Blacklist and the No Follow links in the plugin screen show up as black text, and not linked. SPAMLookup IS linked and it seems to be working correctly.

Just emailed a problem with the Default Weblog Display Settings option of 'Entries to Display' ..if set to display the last X days, it does so, but if set to display the last X entries, it shows the first X entries ever published on the weblog instead.. this is on a fresh full install of MT after importing about 4 years of entries from my previous installation.

Plugin activation from the main plugins menu appears not to function properly.

When activating a plugin titled "NowPlaying" via MT's System Shortcuts main plugin menu (click on highlighted plugin)... then add path to XML file on server for one of my blogs... MT asks me to log back in (Your Movable Type session has ended. Please login again to continue this action.). When I enetr user name and password to log back in, I get the following error:

Unknown object type (close) (go back)

I can just click on the "Main Menu" option from this screen and get back to the main menu...

I think this page should be made into a wiki.

err.. is this meant to be where the known issues list is for MT3.2b2 as well? ..

*bump*

yes. It needs to be updated. give us a second, we're fixing bugs like mad so this is a major moving target.

ok thanks.
