Filing multiple bugs

This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.

First, I want to thank all of you who have filed bugs thus far, especially those of you who illustrated the problem with screenshots. This makes the MT development team very happy and they are currently working on fixing a number of issues for a beta-2 release.

However, I would like to highlight one issue that has come up a number of times: filing multiple bugs in the same report. Each email you send to the bug reporting address is turned into a bug report which has a single title, a single resolution and a single assignee. While reporting multiple bugs in one email may seem easier to do, it actually adversely impacts the engineering team.

When you file multiple bugs in one report, we have to decide between two options:

  1. Leave it as is and don't mark it as resolved until all issues are fixed, passing it back and forth between the different people who are responsible for the disparate parts of the code containing the bugs
  2. Split it into separate bug reports in which case we lose the ability to reply back to you via email.

Neither are very palatable options. Hence, we would kindly ask that you religiously file separate reports for each bug you find, even if you think that they are probably related. In this case, it is very easy for the engineers to mark one of them as duplicate, which takes far less effort and retains all of the great functionality of email replies.

Thank you again for your participation in the beta and for all of your bug reports.
