Beta tester sound-off
This is an archived entry from the Movable Type 3.2 beta test.
Entries from the current beta release (v3.3) can be found here.
Some of you have expressed a desire to know who else is testing the beta in order to form "test groups" of a sort. So, if you want to let all of the other testers know that you are among them, just ping this entry or leave a comment with the URL to your test installation.
However, instead of just saying "Me too", how about you tell us what your favorite part of MT 3.2 is so far?

Me too ;P
Seriously I'm testing at http://www.serialpurrs.org/betablog/ Mostly just a clone of my day to day scribbles and setup and no where near as advanced as some people, though I am experimenting with stuff out of my normal do.
It took a bit getting used to the new systemoverview and re-org behind the scenes, but it's growing on me and I can see it being real useful (On a personal level) if ever I decide to branch out some of my areas of posting and playing instead of having everything in one blog (Which is also why I'd love to see a pages feature).

I just try this beta version in my personal website & blog, I love the way that this new version handle mt plugins. Like this : "I found that one of my plugins reporting error, so I can switch it off by disable the error plugin..." --- this is great.
The interface (layout), very helpful to me...
MovableType is more better now... :)

I actually went against everyone's advice (as I often do) and installed 3.2 on my main installation (personal blog). First off I have to say, I LOVE this release! My favorite feature thus far, is the ability to edit the file name for each entry right on the edit entry screen! Awesome for those of us who want to try and become more search engine friendly. I look forward to more soon!
Thanks SA!

Not sure if this is a bug or just me. Pings I'm sending to this blog are timing out. "HTTP error: 500 read timeout" When I re-save the entry (auto discovery is on), I get "Ping 'http://www.sixapart.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-tb.cgi/2706' failed: Duplicate ping"
So here's my entry on "favorite features": http://www.momathome.com/mt32beta/2005/07/favorite32fea.html

Actually yeah, mine timed out several times trying to ping this entry.. although the pings did get through apparently. Perhaps increase the default timeout a little bit (although it's easily amended by users on mt.cfg / mt.config).

The most useful feature so far has been the new categories menu when posting an entry which lets me check off all the categories instead of the old system.
My installation of MT 3.2 is serving not only my own site, but also my friend Edu's Spanish Adventures as well.

I like the single-click rebuild of individual templates. Finally! Thank you! When you're doing a lot of rapid rebuilds, that pop-up window becomes a hated thing very quickly. The new way is much nicer.
My second favorite piece is the new authors page. Much easier to manage my small cadre of authors now and see what they're up to.

Actually for those who are experiencing ping timeouts, you'll want to modify your own PingTimeout in your mt.cfg. I've always found 20 seconds to be too slow because people often have complex templates which take time to rebuild.
A longer PingTimeout on your side tells your MT install to be a little more patient and wait for a response from the remote server.

nods I always thought the default was 20secs, but the latest mt.cfg I have (from 3.2b1) says the default is now 15secs.. perhaps a little too low now, even as a default.

I have to admit, I love having the save/preview buttons on both top and bottom. I also like the idea of a better plugin interface. Hopefully the rest of the plugins besides nofollow will follow suit and give more control over to the MT interface. I also like the ability to change the post file name.
The layout is starting to become familiar, so I am over that whole effeminate reaction.

Yeah, I am using this beta for my main blog. I know it something that is a no-no when beta testing but I have been having a lot of ussues with the last two versions. I am pretty sure it has been related to my server but upgrading to a beta and putting it through a workout might help myself and others.

I certainly am: http://www.majordojo.com/ and I am developing the Media Manager Plugin for 3.2 (http://www.majordojo.com/projects/MediaManager/) and MTAmazon32 (a repackaging of MTAmazon to take advantage of the configuration hooks the 3.2 provides).

I'm using beta 3.2 for my personal blog at lastthingslast.com. Loving the changes to the interface, but I haven't really explored the new features much. I imagine the global search/replace function will come in handy, especially for template changes. In fact, now that I think about it, I could have used that function when I changed my background image, instead of editing each template. D'oh!

Currently using 3.2 Beta 1 on River Is Made Of CHOCOLATE, which absolutely no one should read if they want to avoid spoilers for the movie Serenity (although the front page is safe, just don't click any further is you want to be unspoiled). To date, I'm mainly just getting used to interface improvements in the CMS, and haven't yet turned on comments/trackbacks (mainly because I have to customize all the CSS for the site design, and I'm not up for it yet).

Could somebody tell me why I'd be getting this error when I try to run mt-upgrade.cgi?
Got an error: Can't locate MT/App/Upgrader.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /kunden/homepages/41/d95675168/htdocs/jamesbow/extlib /kunden/homepages/41/d95675168/htdocs/jamesbow/lib /usr/local/lib/perl/5.6.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.6.1 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.6.1 /usr/share/perl/5.6.1 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /kunden/homepages/41/d95675168/htdocs/jamesbow/mt-upgrade.cgi line 22.

There is definitely something wrong with mt-upgrade.cgi. I store my files in http://www.bowjamesbow.net/cgi-bin and when I try to run http://www.bowjamesbow.net/cgi-bin/mt-upgrade.cgi, it immediately tries to look for http://www.bowjamesbow.net/mt-upgrade.cgi. I finally worked around this problem by uploading a number of MT directories (exlib, lib and tmpl) into the top-level directory, duplicating the directories already in cgi-bin, and that seems to have done the trick. No other surprises as I actually work with mt.cgi, now.

Hey James, I just created a new thread which is more on topic for support requests.
Of course, if you think you discovered a bug, please file it and give us as much detail as you can.
Thanks.

By the way, we're aware of the problem you encountered and it's already been fixed in the last two nightlies (and the upcoming beta-2)

Good to know. I'll post any further bugs I see accordingly. Hopefully there won't be any. Once I got past this hurdle, it was smooth sailing. And the new look is really good!

Am I the only one that is having trouble with actual numbers of comments showing up on the weblogs listing? All of my comment counts are over 100, which is completely incorrect...Haven't seen this around, am wondering if it's a bug or something I'm just missing. This is still around in Beta 2.
