Six Apart News & Events

In The Great Cities of the World...

There are many incredible cities around the world that are known for leadership in culture, finance, the arts, or technology. But any list of the world's great cities would certainly include Tokyo, Paris, New York and San Francisco. That's why we're so proud to have a Six Apart presence in all of these cities, and in so many places in between.

What's been amazing to see is that, despite the differences in language, culture, and community in each city, our team has kept some common traits that seem to be universal. There are some serious geeks in every office, hacking on the latest technology, and they work alongside amazingly talented business people, passionate designers, and of course dedicated bloggers. Every office also seems to feature a few multi-lingual superstars who speak two or three or four of the languages that we do business in.

Surprisingly, Six Apart people worldwide aren't just smart, they're also often smart-asses, too, with a sarcastic but still playful and fun sense of humor in all of our offices. Whether it's loving good food or playing Nintendo games or trading cycling tips or sharing music recommendations or just keeping tabs on the latest in the blogosphere, the connections between each of our offices go well beyond the usual stuff like technology or business planning, and into some really great human connections about what we find in common regardless of culture. (It probably helps that we have a ton of blogs inside the company and on the public web that keep us in touch.)

As you'd expect, each of our offices has its own web presence, too. They each reflect the personality and focus of our various teams, with a unique local flavor.

You don't have to take our word for  it -- you can see for yourself on our various sites:
And of course, our Six Apart blog that's the voice of our world headquarters has recently been completely redesigned, too. We'd be remiss if we didn't mention that we're hiring, but perhaps the greatest thing about having a worldwide presence for Six Apart is that it's made our products better, made our business stronger, and most importantly made our company an even more exciting and inspiring place to work for those of us who get to collaborate with our coworkers all around the world.

I have to say that I've really enjoyed working for Six Apart, especially because of the international presence we have. It means that I get to interact with people from all over the world on a daily basis. This gives me a lot of perspective on what we do since I get to see how people react to our products first hand in other countries.

It also means that I've made a lot of friends in far places that I wouldn't have otherwise. The folks at the Tokyo office have helped me with my Japanese language blog, correcting mistakes and giving advice. The Paris office has increased my reserve of French jokes and appreciation of long vacations. The New York office has just opened up, but I look forward to having a coffee and lox bagel at their office in the future an exchanging East vs. West coast boasts over IM.

I've been lucky in that part of my job is to work with the Japan office to facilitate communication. What I love is seeing how indeed we are all Six Aparters and identify with certain core values. We have a shared understanding about what we're all trying to do, but within that, each office has developed their own personality, with their own quirky jokes and fun events. It's great to see such diversity.

It's also very inspiring to hear about all the different use cases of our products that at times are unique to the local culture. There is a lot of creative great work out there thanks to our international offices.

I always enjoy to visit the office in San Francisco from Japan. It's really easy to be a friend with everyone I meet. I think, it is because there are people who love to talk, share, collaborate, and of course to blog about it !
I'm happy to be a part of this great team. Thanks Anil !

I visited Paris last weekend for my personal holidays and our Paris office friends gave me a warm welcome, and took me to the wonderful Moroccan restaurant near their office on Friday lunch. We talked about Music, Sports and some politics that I couldn't understand ;)

Great blog and great service. Would be nice that you think to open an office in Barcelona. as Milan , Barcelona has all a person needs to be happy in a Mediterranean way.

Bonjour from Paris!

Great post (as always), Anil - having spent time in all of these cities, I have to agree that Six Apart really knows how to pick office locations. My fingers are crossed for future offices in Montréal and Nassau...

I think this really demonstrates what is great about the Internet. You can be almost anyone, practically anywhere, and you have access to worlds that would have been beyond your reach less than a generation ago.

Quite incredible, when you think about it.
