Launching Movable Type Websites and Blogs Gets Faster and Easier with
the Movable Type Virtual Appliance by JumpBox

San Francisco, CA - September 17, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, and JumpBox, a developer of virtual appliances that simplify server software deployment, today announced the availability of Virtual Movable Type. With Virtual Movable Type, new customers can get a quicker start using a virtual version of the Movable Type software, a simple and powerful alternative to installing Movable Type on a web server. The virtual appliance automatically installs the full power of Movable Type and all necessary infrastructure into a single virtual machine, eliminating the complex task of configuring server applications.

"The virtual appliance makes it radically easier to get started and allows anyone to quickly experience the flexibility, scalability and power of Movable Type," said Ed Anuff, EVP and GM of the Movable Type Division at Six Apart. "You can get up and running immediately, while reducing the cost of configuration and maintenance. And it's a snap for anyone who wants to evaluate the platform to get started, whether that's on a desktop running VMWare or Parallels, a large-scale deployment on Amazon's EC2 or anything in between."

To get started, new Movable Type users can select a hosting provider that uses VMWare or Parallels virtual environments, or use their own virtualized servers running Parallels, Xen, Microsoft Virtual Server or Microsoft Virtual PC. Customers can then simply download Virtual Movable Type by JumpBox, and follow the documentation to complete the process. Virtual Movable Type includes all of the power of the Movable Type platform, exclusive features like Action Streams for connecting to dozens of popular social networks, and a full robust web server infrastructure tailored to run Movable Type at peak performance.

"Virtual Movable Type by JumpBox is a great example of the ease of use JumpBox brings to server software deployment," commented Kimbro Staken, CEO of JumpBox Inc. "It takes minimal technical skill and just minutes to deploy, regardless of whether it's on your laptop, in the data center or in the cloud. This strips away the barriers to using server based applications like Movable Type and allows a less technical customer to take advantage of this great software."

Pricing and Availability
Virtual Movable Type and Virtual Movable Type Pro are free for developers and bloggers. Virtual Movable Type Pro for businesses is $449.95 for 5 users and $1549.95 for 20 users. Large corporations and enterprises are invited to contact the Six Apart sales team for pricing for enterprise use. Discounts for higher education and non-profit institutions are available.

Installation of Virtual Movable Type is in English, but users can set their language preferences once installation is complete since Movable Type supports posting in any language. The free, open source version of Virtual Movable Type can be downloaded from the Movable Type community site at www.movabletype.org or from the JumpBox website at http://www.jumpbox.com/app/movabletype.
San Francisco, CA - August 18, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, announced today the launch of Blogs.com, a destination website that connects readers with the best blogs on a wide array of topics. In order to ensure the highest quality content, Blogs.com relies on a team of passionate editors to choose blogs based on their quality, popularity and relevance. In addition, daily editorials and a weekly newsletter provide readers with a convenient round-up of the latest buzz in the blogosphere.

"Blogs.com is the place to go for anyone who wants a fast, easy way to find the best blogs," said Mena Trott, Co-Founder and President of Six Apart. "Six Apart is a company founded by bloggers, for bloggers, so we're excited to help guide people to great blogs on anything and everything from gardening to gadgets, politics to pets, and everything else good about blogs."

The simple, streamlined Blogs.com design makes it easy for people to find and share well-written and relevant posts in blogs with audiences of all sizes. By organizing the top blogs in one place, Blogs.com helps all readers, including those who are new to blogs, discover the best blogs on a range of topics including Life, Entertainment, Technology, News & Politics, Business, as well as seasonal topics like Student Life. Readers who are looking for the top blogs in specific categories, such as nutrition or iPhones, will find what they are looking for in one of many top ten lists organized by topic

"Six Apart is committed to making bloggers successful," said David Tokheim, EVP and GM of Media at Six Apart. "With so many blogs created every day, we want to help readers discover the must-read blogs, as well as help bloggers connect with new readers. Blogs.com does just that."

Blogs.com also benefits bloggers by providing them with traffic, recognition and links to the top bloggers and best content. Bloggers and readers will also enjoy Guest Editor featured editorials and top ten lists written by some of the most influential people on the web, including Craigslist founder Craig Newmark and Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired magazine. A partnership with Voxant provides readers with free access to premium licensed video content from sources such as AP, Reuters, CNN, BBC etc., while a partnership with Clearspring makes it easy for readers to share blog posts via email, posts to their personal blogs, or their favorite social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, and Bebo.

Blogs.com replaces Rojo.com, the blog aggregation site Six Apart acquired in 2006, and the popular Week in Rojo email newsletter will reinvent itself as the Blogs.com newsletter.

Movable Type heralds a new era by adding social networking capabilities to industry-leading blogging, website development and content management tools

San Francisco, CA - August 13, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, today announced the availability of Movable Type 4.2 and with it the debut of Movable Type Pro (MT Pro), a product that combines Movable Type's advanced blogging tools and content management system with social networking features. Now any website or blog owner can create a vibrant social network by letting their readers and visitors become members of their sites, with profiles and the ability to rate content and follow each other.

"Publishers and bloggers are increasingly looking to introduce social networking capabilities to their sites, as they look for ways to increase reader engagement," said Chris Alden, CEO of Six Apart. "Just as Movable Type played a vital role in bringing publishing to everyone almost seven years ago, it is playing a key role in putting social networking tools into the hands of bloggers and publishers. Social networking doesn't belong to a few giant companies any more than publishing belongs to a few giant companies."

Movable Type Pro makes building a community possible for anyone, including publishers, individual bloggers, educational institutions, small and medium-sized businesses or large enterprises. Site owners can build community blogs, in which members create their own posts, or forums, in which members participate using the same profile and avatars used throughout the site. Several large publishers and bloggers that have used these features for the past year, including AMC, Talking Points Memo, and BoingBoing, have found them to be essential to their sites, bringing increased interaction with visitors, higher traffic, and richer conversations with and among members.

The release of Movable Type 4.2 introduces major improvements to the Movable Type platform, including:

•	enhanced performance: common tasks are up to 100 times faster than on previous versions,
•	simplified default templates that make it easy to get up and running quickly,
•	the best, free open source antispam product, TypePad Antispam, is built in.

In addition, improved search and threaded commenting are included in the release.
Besides the social networking features in Movable Type Pro, the product includes the popular custom fields feature, which gives site owners the freedom to add new attributes to their content, and a beautiful Professional Template Set.

Movable Type 4.2 is available under a free, open source license or as part of Movable Type Pro. Six Apart also offers Movable Type Enterprise, which adds support for Oracle and SQL Server databases and LDAP on top of Movable Type Pro features.

"Movable Type stands apart from other publishing and social networking systems because of its integration of blogging, content management and social networking," commented Ed Anuff, GM of the Movable Type division. "It is scalable, allowing large organizations or small to build the website they need, and it is proven, as you can see by our list of customers."

"There is no better time to upgrade or switch to Movable Type," said Anuff. "This release is by far the strongest, fastest, most secure ever. Anyone who's been waiting to try Movable Type is invited to give it a try with our free Blogger license, and then upgrade as their site thrives."

Pricing and Availability
Movable Type is available in English, Japanese, French, German, Dutch, and Spanish. It is free to bloggers and to K-12 schools, with an option to purchase support for $99. It is available to businesses in 5-author and 20-author licenses, for $395.95 and $1499.95, respectively. Discounts for non-profit institutions are available. The free, open source version of Movable Type can be downloaded from the Movable Type community site at www.movabletype.org.
Exclusive new feature enhances Movable Type's pioneering connection of blogs and social networking

San Francisco, CA - July 23, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, announced today that its pioneering Movable Type platform has joined Facebook Connect to incorporate Facebook profiles into the active conversations and comments on Movable Type-powered sites.

With Facebook Connect, the millions of people on the web who visit Movable Type blogs and sites every day can use their existing Facebook accounts to quickly and easily sign in and comment with no registration needed. Users maintain full control over sharing their information such as their name and profile photo with site owners or other commenters, using the familiar privacy settings they've already defined in Facebook. And just as with the OpenID standard pioneered by Six Apart and the Movable Type platform, these connections are made without users having to share their passwords with third party sites.

"Great conversations happen on Movable Type-powered communities, and Movable Type users have told us they love getting the best social media features first," said Michael Sippey, VP of products at Six Apart "Facebook Connect gives our users what they want, as conversations become richer and more engaging for Facebook users by allowing them to bring their existing profiles and friend lists to Movable Type blogs. We think the power of Facebook Connect means that Facebook members will stay longer on Movable Type-powered sites, and make even more valuable contributions while they're there."

For bloggers and publishers who use Movable Type, Facebook Connect opens conversations to the millions of active Facebook members, increasing engagement while lowering barriers to participation. The Movable Type integration with Facebook Connect will encourage comments and notify other Facebook friends of the blog conversation. Facebook Connect will be seamlessly integrated into the existing Movable Type commenting and comment management experience for easy administration using the familiar web-based interface, or newer dedicated interfaces for platforms such as the Apple iPhone.

When officially released, Facebook Connect will be available for Movable Type users as free, open source plugin.

Four blogging moms, seven days without kids, and 2000 miles to drive

San Francisco, CA - July 14, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, announced today a partnership with Silicon Valley Moms Group as four of their influential "mommy bloggers" drive coast-to-coast during their Summer Road Trip '08. Six Apart facilitated a sponsorship with General Motors which provided the group with a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid SUV that they are driving from Washington D.C. to San Francisco, all the while blogging about their experiences on the road.

The Silicon Valley Moms Group is a collaborative community of bloggers showcasing the ups, downs and everyday humor of motherhood. Approximately 200 women contribute to nine regional and demographic blogs. Four selected members are driving across the country and utilizing the latest technology to blog, photo blog and video blog about their trip. The adventure started on July 11, 2008, and will end when the bloggers arrive in San Francisco on July 17, 2008, in time for a SV Moms Group party and BlogHer '08, an annual conference for a diverse community of women who blog.

"Six Apart Media and SV Moms are partnering to provide GM an effective way to reach influential mommy bloggers and their readers while following four adventurous women on a trip they'll remember for the rest of their lives," said David Tokheim, EVP of Media at Six Apart. "At Six Apart Media, we are uniquely positioned to help bloggers and advertisers develop great marketing programs like Summer Road Trip '08, providing both with strategies to tap into the power of social media."

Six Apart's premium advertising program launched in April as a way to give advertisers the opportunity to create partnerships with leading influencers in ways that are as innovative as they are effective, and also as part of Six Apart's ongoing effort to offer complete solutions for its customers as their blogging and social media efforts grow.

"We are thrilled to partner with Six Apart to promote and amplify our road trip across the country," said Jill Asher, Co-Founder of Silicon Valley Moms Group. "What started out as a small idea that came to me one night while I was in bed trying to sleep, has now blossomed into MomRoadTrip [http://www.momroadtrip.com], a hilarious and irreverent website featuring moms sharing their experiences on the road through blogging technology."
The SV Moms buckled into their Chevy Tahoe Hybrid on July 11th in Washington D.C. They're making stops in Chicago, Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Reno, and Silicon Valley, before arriving in San Francisco on July 17th. Follow the adventure at http://momroadtrip.com.

Mobile Blogging Application Gives TypePad Users a Revolutionary Way to Blog In-the-Moment

San Francisco - July 10, 2008 - Six Apart, the world's leading blogging software and services company, today announced that its TypePad application for iPhone and iPod touch will be available from the new Apple App Store at launch starting today. Introduced during the keynote speech at the Apple Worldwide Developer's Conference this application lets iPhone and iPod touch users blog whenever they want, from wherever they are, all within a fully optimized and beautifully designed TypePad interface.

"One of Six Apart's goals is to provide great blogging experiences in all environments. The combination of the iPhone and iPod touch with TypePad has truly brought blogging to the handheld experience," said Michael Sippey, VP of Products at Six Apart. "The introduction of TypePad for iPhone, as well as our other mobile blogging applications, means bloggers are no longer confined to their desks, rather they can effortlessly blog their stories and photos as they are experiencing them out in the world."

Using TypePad for iPhone, bloggers can easily create a blog post from their iPhone, save it for later editing, as well as seamlessly publish to their TypePad blog. Users can also take photos and instantly incorporate them into a blog post, or search and post any of the images found in their iPhone gallery. With iPhone's revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface TypePad bloggers can easily maneuver around the application and publish to their TypePad blog with just a few taps.

TypePad bloggers who use the iPhone or iPod touch already benefit from an optimized iPhone blogging interface through their device's Safari browser at http://i.typepad.com. However, the new native TypePad application for iPhone rounds out their options and gives iPhone and iPod touch owners an even easier way to blog on-the-go.

At the launch of the Apple App Store today the free application will be available worldwide in English, and Six Apart plans to provide localized versions in additional selected languages. To download TypePad for iPhone, please visit www.itunes.com/appstore/
