Six Apart Adds Earnings Capabilities to TypePad Weblogs
Webloggers Can Apply Earnings to Their TypePad Pro Accounts or Even Bring Home a Little Extra Money From Their Well-Read Blogs
SAN FRANCISCO — June 21, 2005 —Six Apart, the leader in weblogging software and services, today announced that it has taken the first of several steps to make it easy for TypePad Pro users to earn money through their weblogs. Starting today, TypePad Pro users can easily add Kanoodle’s content-targeted sponsored links to their weblogs, as well as view an earnings report right from the TypePad application. The company said additional features, including the addition of a "TipJa" and sophisticated earnings reports, will be available later this summer.
Through an integrated service offering from Kanoodle, a leading provider of sponsored links for content pages and search results, TypePad Pro users can now immediately place Kanoodle’s content-targeted sponsored links — text-based ads related to the editorial content appearing on their weblog — on their sites and view a simple earnings report that allows them to monitor their earnings. Now, each time a visitor clicks through a sponsored link, the weblogger will earn a portion of the proceeds from this ad. These features are available directly through the TypePad application, greatly streamlining the process of adding earning elements to a weblog.
Money earned by webloggers from Kanoodle’s content-targeted sponsored links in the first 90 days will automatically be applied toward TypePad subscription fees. After 90 days, any extra money will made be available for the weblogger to spend via PayPal or to pay for future subscription fees.
"At Six Apart, we know how important it can be to receive positive feedback from weblog readers and earn a little money," said Barak Berkowitz, Six Apart’s chief executive officer. "We want our users to be able to reap rewards from their labor and let their readers show their appreciation for the entertaining, informative or moving weblogs they produce."
"Today’s announcement is our first step to building a platform for our pro-level webloggers to defray the costs of maintaining their weblog," he said. "Upcoming features like TipJar and our sophisticated earning and ranking reports will greatly complement TypePad Text Ads as well as give our subscribers even more ways to pay for their accounts."
