Six Apart Announces Movable Type 3.0 Developers Contest with $20,000 in Prizes
"Plug Into Movable Type" Contest Gives Developers a Channel to Showcase and Sell their Movable Type Plug-ins
May 13, 2004 - San Mateo, CA - Six Apart, the maker of award-winning Movable Type software and TypePad weblogging service, today announced a contest intended to give developers a place to showcase and sell their Movable Type plug-ins while competing for $20,000 in prizes including a first prize of a dream $7,000+ desktop system (Apple Macintosh or Dell PC). Contestants can enter by going to www.sixapart.com/contests/plugin.
The contest is intended to encourage developers to begin customizing Six Apart's Movable Type 3.0 publishing platform, an extensible system whose developer edition was released today.
"We are continually impressed and delighted by the plug-ins developers have created for Movable Type" said Ben Trott, Six Apart's CTO and co-founder. "Now with the greatly enhanced power of the our new publishing platform, Movable Type 3.0, we can't wait to see the great things the community will build. This contest is an obvious attempt to entice them to build them now, not only to compete for these great geek prizes, but to introduce them to the new power of this release, produce plug-ins that extend the Movable Type platform, and encourage new developers to join our growing network."
Qualified contestants, who will retain full ownership over the plug-ins they develop, and may sell them if they wish, can have their plug-ins promoted and distributed to potential users around the world through the Movable Type website.
Judges will evaluate submissions on such attributes as which extensions are most robust, most innovative and make the best use of the new Movable Type architecture. The judges, who consist of both Six Apart employees and non-employees, will base their decisions on both technical and mass appeal criteria. Judges will evaluate technical merits on such attributes as which extensions are most robust, make the best use of the new Movable Type architecture, and are optimized to perform on different hosts and set ups, among others. They will also be judged on their "coolness" factor and appeal to the most users.
Contestants can enter anytime between now and June 18th, 2004. Prizes include:
First Prize (One Winner): Choice of a powerhouse desktop system worth more than $7,000. Choice includes either a Apple G5 with 2Gig Ram and 23" Cinema Display or a Dell Pentium 4 with two 20 inch Flat Panel Displays. Both systems include Adobe Creative Suite Premiere with GoLive CS.
Second Prize (Two Winners): Choice of a Apple 17" PowerBook G4 or a IBM ThinkPad T41 worth $3,500 and Adobe Creative Suite Premiere with GoLive CS.
